Microsoft will set up base in Qatar

Optimistic on the booming economy and appreciative of efforts of the leadership to keep the momentum, the global software major Microsoft will set up a base in the fast coming up Science and Technology Centre in Qatar, and hinted at introducing new products and concepts.

“We are going to move into Science and Technology Centre once it is ready and we have made a commitment,” Microsoft vice-president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Ali Faramawi, who was in Doha in connection with inauguration of its new office, told Gulf Times in an interview.

Asked about the size of the Middle East and its significance to Microsoft, he said three-four years back we were not even 1% of the total revenue and “now we are much more than that” but declined to divulge the figures. On the government programmes, he said Microsoft has signed an agreement with Qatar for co-operating in deployment of technology within government, showcasing specific E-governance projects, education and building local software economy.
